👾Zooming Secretary (NES)
ActionMedium
A delightfully oddball NES homebrew from Shiru, one of the most prolific and respected developers in the 8-bit homebrew community. You play as an office secretary in a surreal corporate tower, racing floor by floor to collect documents before the clock runs out. Each of the 8 stages introduces new hazards — rolling office chairs, malfunctioning copiers, aggressive filing cabinets, and ceiling vents that drop surprise obstacles. The core mechanic is a risk-reward speed system: the faster you clear a floor, the higher your score multiplier, but rushing makes every near-miss that much tighter. Power-ups include a coffee thermos (temporary invincibility), a stapler projectile, and yellow sticky notes that mark safe paths. Shiru's hallmark pixel art is on full display, with expressive character animations, a muted office color palette punctuated by neon highlights, and detailed cubicle backgrounds. The soundtrack oscillates between tense elevator-music loops and triumphant floor-clear jingles. Released in 2011 through pdroms.de, Zooming Secretary stands as a prime example of how creative NES homebrew can transcend its hardware limitations — it's part action-puzzler, part speedrun playground, and entirely unique.
